First Food!

We almost made it to 6 months exactly before giving baby Truman any solids!  I've been reading a lot about it lately and it seems like he was giving us all the cues that he was ready for more than milk.  He has been paying very close attention to us when we eat or drink anything, he's sitting up really well with a little bit of support, and he's been "chewing" his milk.  So...we threw caution to the wind and gave him some cereal Sunday night!  He will be 6 months old on January 31st, and had had cereal for the first time on January 26th.  How fun that was!  It took me a while to choose which cereal to start him on, but after some reading and deliberating in the baby aisle...I chose this:
There's only about a gazillion choices!  I think to save myself the stress of choosing baby food (veggies and fruits) we are just going to make our own.  That way we know exactly what he is eating and he will be getting fresh food instead of something that's been sitting on a shelf for who knows how long.  And the selection is a little intimidating...

I assumed that the first time we fed him, it would basically be a trial run.  I never dreamed that he would catch on so fast!  That assures me that he was ready for cereal.  By the second bite he was a pro!  Opening his little mouth for more and pulling my hand towards him.  It was so so sweet!!  My Mom and Dad were there, and of course Chris, so Truman had quite the cheering crowd for his first food.  He ate 1 tablespoon mixed with formula.  We are going to feed him a tablespoon each night with our dinner for about a week.  Then we may start increasing the amount we give him and trying a veggie!  I think we've decided to go with carrots for his first one.  Our pediatrician recommended veggies before fruits, and to start with an orange veggie.
